Motherhood, the most rewarding and most difficult job a woman can ever have. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the women who have birthed, all of the women who have rescued by adopting, all of the spiritual mother’s, all of the women who grieve children they have lost, and all of the women who still hope to have children. May you be richly rewarded, filled with grace, favor and wonder at who God is, and how powerful he has made you.
When I gave birth to my first child, I had no idea what it meant to be a mother. I had no idea what kind of sacrifice it would take and no clue about the life long commitment I was making. I mean, I wanted a baby. A cute, softy, fuzzy headed bundle of chubby wiggles. I wanted to play and snuggle, and smell that intoxicating baby lotion smell. Thankfully, I have come to understand that motherhood is so much more than that.
Mothering is a sacred holy calling that is Heaven ordained. Mothering is a picture of the feminine side of God. Yes, God embodies both male and female attributes. The entire story of creation is filled with feminine power. Genesis says the spirit “was hovering/brooding over the waters” much like a hen does. It was focused; intent on bringing about life. We create and deliver life, we even sustain that life with our own bodies. We are the carriers of creation. We nurture, comfort, protect and train our children, just like Holy Spirit does us. We are meant to be a powerful force in their lives, guiding them into becoming who God has created them to be. Often we know things before they happen. That thing called “Mother’s Intuition” is really Holy Spirit equipping us. I think if we understand this, we can be more careful, and not let the day to day stress of life snuff out the holiness of our calling. God has equipped us to raise the next generation up into their destiny. We get to boldly release them like arrows that will fly straight and hit their mark in this life. We make history with our mothering, and have he ability to change the world. Congratulations mothers! You are quite possibly the most powerful army on the face of the earth. Do your job with fierce boldness and steadfast faith, resting in what God has empowered you to do.
