I appreciate January. It’s a new year, a time to review the past year, make adjustments and set new goals. A lot of emphasis is placed on entering a season of focused fasting and prayer. Let’s be honest, after all of the holiday celebration we could all probably use a little scaling back. I know I can!
I’ve recently been pondering fasting, prayer, and pressing in.
It’s occurred to me that this is either very effective, or totally pointless. Why? Because of our understanding of who God is. If we don’t have a grasp on who God really is our consecration is wasted. Is God cranky and angry passing out judgment on seemingly random people? Does he look like your absentee father who doesn’t show any real interest? Is he great and mighty, but causing us to fear our own failures? We must really know who it is we’re pressing into, who we’re consecrating our lives to.
Our understanding of God is crucial to the way we live, the decisions we make.
HERE ARE FOUR BASIC THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT GOD:
God is in a good mood. Seriously, He really loves you endlessly and unfailingly. He also likes you, and thinks you’re pretty cool.
The blood of Jesus paid for everything!
Like, all of it. Sin, sickness, and failure, the list is literally endless.
You are important.
I know it’s hard to believe, but it is true. He created you after all. He has a vested interest in your success.
Nothing is impossible!
For real? Absolutely! God placed dreams in your heart for you to pursue on purpose. He gave you gifts and talents so you could use them! Dream big, scary big.
I encourage you to spend time this January praying, fasting, and dedicating your life to this God. The Father of endless love. The one who brings freedom. This Jesus, who bought your success with His own blood. Let 2015 be the best year of your life!
